In this phase, I put an initial layer of oil paint thinned with gamsol to block in the light and dark areas of the composition. This makes it easier to carve out the details from these large blocks of lights and shadows. I find that this layer also helps the succeeding layers of oil paint flow much smoother on the surface. Around 7 weeks to go before #TOAF62 so I gotta get this one finished soon. #art #contemporaryart #modernart #wip #oilpainting #paintingprocess
It's going to be a very busy couple of months as I prepare for the @torontooutdoorart on July 7-9. I only initially applied for the online fair but now I am participating in the actual outdoor fair as well. This is my first time flying solo at an art fair. Trying very hard not to freak out! I recently discovered oil paint sticks even though they seem to have been around for a long time. This is my first time trying them out. In high school, I mainly used oil pastels, and this feels so similar to that. My studio/bedroom has been occupied by these pieces, and I'm running out of space for new works! But I am happy to see them all together like this. It's a great feeling when you look back at the work you've done and realize that you've accomplished a lot despite being anxious and scared shitless half the time.
